Russia will start experimenting with cross-border crypto payments next week to circumvent international sanctions. It is reported that the legislation was passed in late July and quickly signed into law by President Vladimir Putin, but it does not lift the existing ban on the use of cryptocurrencies as legal tender for regular payments within Russia, instead allowing the use of cryptocurrencies for cross-border transfers.
The Russian State Duma has proposed a bill to regulate cryptocurrency mining, aimed at curbing illegal activities and promoting investment and employment. The bill, proposed by the chairperson of the Duma's financial marekt committee and supported by key deputies, requires strict guidance for miners, including registration and government supervision. If passed, the law will come into force on September 1.
